At the meeting, Dr. Hu Wenfeng gave a special report on "Insect protein, a novel sustainable edible and feed protein source". The report shared with participants the current status and development trends of the insect protein industry from the perspectives of application value, economic benefits, environmental protection, and industrial development of insect products. Dr. Hu believes that "insect protein" will play a key role in the sustainable development of human society and the livestock and poultry breeding industry in the following four aspects:
1. Insect proteins possess both resource and environmental attributes. Insect farming can create alternative sources of protein for human consumption and animal feed, and add value to low value wastes such as agricultural and food processing by-products.
2. Insect proteins are renewable and environmentally friendly resources. Compared with traditional meat protein food, Insects as food protein is more affordable, more sustainable and more beneficial to the environment.
3. Insect protein is rich in protein and fat, with high nutritional value. Hermetia illucens contains 40% protein and 30% fat, which can replace soybean meal, fish meal, etc. as poultry feed materials.
4. The development potential of insect proteins is enormous. In the future, people will consume more insect proteins, and the processing and production of insect proteins will develop into a new industry.

During the conference, the delegation from South China Agricultural University also visited the farm, Confucius Institute, and Innovation Research Center for Agriculture and Food Safety at Faisalabad Agricultural University, and had in-depth exchanges with local teachers and students. Through the joint efforts of both parties, the conference achieved good results, and multiple mainstream media and television stations in Pakistan provided special reports on the seminar. As a sustainable protein resource, Insects as food have great potential in replacing traditional protein feed and food, and in terms of food sustainability and safety.
